The network for this project is quite complex, with 5 suppliers/ vendors of kits, 30+ assembly centers, 5-15 distributors per center and a single central coordination agency (IIT Bombay). Managing the operations of such a complex network is essential and quite challenging. The challenges include dispersed and remote locations of assembly centers, unreliable communication network and diverse nature of the workforce with minimal training in operations management.
Procedures are in place to maintain daily operations and sales records at the remote centers. Processes are also designed to timely synchronization of the data between the remote assembly centers and the IIT Bombay coordination team. Various tools are used to achieve the same, such as email, spreadsheets, Google docs, mobile phones and android apps.
